Loft conversions and extensions

Services offered

At GT we can build extensions of all sizes. We can also convert lofts and fit dormers and roof lights for your new living space.

Things to consider

When you decide to have a loft conversion or extension, you may need to obtain certain planning permissions from the government and council and meet the requirements of building regulations. Some require approval before building begins and others will be checked afterwards to ensure compliance. GT can advise you on who to contact.

Guide to loft conversions

Types of conversions

A Velux conversion does not alter the shape of your roof. Windows are set into the existing roof, which is insulated, and the floor is reinforced. A dormer conversion on the other hand extends the space by building vertical projections upwards from the roof. Dormers can vary in design and size, having a flat roof or a pitched roof. They require more work but offer the advantage of higher ceilings in places. A hip to gable conversion turns a hipped (sloping) roof into a vertical triangular wall (gable) and is useful for incorporating a stairwell.

The conversion process

After an initial consultation at your property, we can arrange a referral to an architect if required. Once you have architect's plans, we can give you an accurate quote for your conversion. GT will ensure that there is minimal disturbance to your home while the building work is going on.
